requirement to regularly maintain all fire rated equipment. As the
Servery fire barrier is part of a life safety system and is connected to a fire
alarm system there is an obligation under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety)
Order 2005 to ensure testing is performed in accordance with BS5588-12.
For details of our service and maintenance options contact our Maintenance
Department.
Q) Will my insurance cover be affected if I do not have my fire containment
equipment regularly serviced by qualified engineers?
A) Yes.
Q) How do I know when I need to replace the batteries and how long do they last?
A) The standard manufacturers’ warranty for batteries is 12 months, however they
can last much longer. Batteries should be regularly checked on maintenance
visits. Unlike traditional fire shutters, the Servery will default to its fire
operational position in the event of battery failure. For further details please
contact our Maintenance Department.
Q) What happens if my Servery fire curtain fails to close to its fire operation
position because an obstruction was present?
A) Call our Maintenance Department immediately for further assistance. The
Servery is a life safety product and failure to do so could make you liable for
prosecution under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. (N.B.The
side channels and the opening should be kept clear at all times - failure to do
so will be a breach of RRO 2005)
Q) When testing my fire curtain and I turn the key-switch back to AUTO from
test, why does the curtain not always retract immediately?
A) There is a minimum delay of 20 seconds that is activated the instant an alarm
signal is received, or the key-switch is operated. This is a safety feature to
protect the motor from abuse, and does not apply to an alarm signal from the
heat or smoke detector (if fitted).
Q) My heat (or smoke) detector was activated and the curtain descended. After
checking that all was clear I pressed the reset detector button and the curtain
did not retract for 5 seconds. Why was that?
A) The control unit contains a built-in safety mechanism, so it generates a 5
second delay to allow the detector to be re-tested. If the detector is clear then
the curtain will retract, if not, the curtain will remain down.
Q) Can I mount the side guides inside a reveal as well as on the face of
an aperture?
A) The Servery is designed to be face-fixed to an aperture. We can
offer alternative models if required - please contact our Technical
Department for further advise.
Q) Can I install the Servery to any type of structure
A) The Servery is supplied with suitable fixings for suitably fire-rated drylined
wall structures. Alternative fixings will be required if fixing to other
surfaces such as masonry, brickwork or reinforced concrete. For further
advice contact our Technical Department.
Q) What happens if I have a mains power cut?
A) Provided the unit is correctly installed following the fitting and
installation instructions, the Servery Standard model will stay retracted
until there is an alarm, or the power is restored. The Servery Plus
model will remain retracted for 30 minutes and then descend under
Gravity Failsafe - or immediately following an alarm signal.
Q) Is the Servery fire curtain easy to connect - what do I need to
provide?
A) The Servery fire curtain unit is fully ‘Plug and Play’. All cables are
provided with snap connectors and power is via a standard factoryfitted
230Vac 13A plug which must be connected to a dedicated supply.
Q) Can you supply a unit over 3.0M wide?
A) The standard product range offers sizes up to 3.0M, (see size chart)
but we will be pleased to quote for special sizes on request.
Q) Do you provide an installation service?
A) Yes - Installation can be provided at additional cost, please contact our
Technical Dept. for details.
Q) Can the unit be boxed in to blend in with my existing decor?
A) Yes - providing any exterior surround should not impair the normal
function of the Severy fire curtain. Any custom made surround should
be suitably fire rated - equivalent to the compartment and the
product. For further details you should seek assistance from your local
Building Surveyor at your local Building Control Division.
Consideration should also be made to access requirements for future
maintenance.
Q) Can the Servery fire curtain be used in a domestic or residential
environment?
A) Yes - the Servery fire curtain is a compact, lightweight and easy-to-fit
unit, ideal for use in the home. Remember that all buildings outside of
dwelling houses will be under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety)
Order 2005. It would be advisable to check with your local Building
Control Office.
Q) Can I have my Servery unit in any colour?
A) The standard finish is RAL white - other colours are available at
additional cost (including stainless steel).
Q) How long must I wait for my Servery fire barrier after placing an order?
A) Our standard delivery period is 21 days from receipt of confirmed
order and payment. A longer delivery period will be anticipated for
those units requiring customisation or non-standard finished.
